Shirley Mae (Hoagland) Pennel

Shirley Mae Pennel, 82, of Loysburg, passed away on June 8, 2018 at the Village at Morrisons Cove, Martinsburg. She was born on February 24, 1936 in Bedford; daughter of the late Sylvester and Laura Alice (Shaffer) Hoagland and was later raised by Sylvester and Madelyn (Holler) Hoagland.  On July 15, 1954 in Winchester Virginia, she married James L. Pennel. He preceded her in death on March 22, 2014. Shirley was a 1954 graduate of Bedford High School. She worked for Lion Manufacturing for 20+ years and later worked for Sheetz. She was a member of the Community Grace Brethren Church, the Woodbury Senior Center, and led the Sewing 4H Club in Loysburg for many years. Shirley loved to sew and quilt and spent the winter months in Florida. She enjoyed playing the Young at Heart Games and dominos, traveling, and vacationing with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband James and sisters Jean Ellis and Betty Fix. Surviving are daughter Luann, wife of D. John Machise of Longwood, Fl; daughter Carla, wife of Gary Shryock of Clearville; daughter Karen, wife of Tom Jones of Loysburg; grandson Chad Shryock (Tony Salamone) of Washington, DC; granddaughter Heidi Race (Russ) of Clearville; granddaughter Aleecha Johnson (Ryan) of Windber; grandson Nicholas Jones (Kendra) of Loysburg; great-grandchildren Lilly, Raiden, Sadie, and Theodore; brothers Donald Hoagland and Fred Hoagland; and sisters Linda Miller, Dalphine Grimes, and Dorothy Barefoot. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on June 16, 2018 at 3PM with Pastor Jeff Peeler officiating.  Friends will be received from 1:30PM until the hour of the service.  All of the above will be held at the Community Grace Brethren Church, 1216 Raystown Rd. Everett, PA 15537. Interment at the Loysburg Community Cemetery South. If so desired, Memorial Contributions in Shirley’s name can be made to Bedford County Young at Heart Games, P.O.
