Thelma F. (Ebersole) Steele

February 11, 1925 — May 7, 2019

Thelma F. Steele, 94, of Martinsburg, formerly of Loysburg, passed away on May 7, 2019 at Homewood in Martinsburg. She was born on February 11, 1925 in Waterside, daughter of the late Warden and Bertha (Steele) Ebersole. On January 29, 1944 in the Parsonage at the Methodist Church in Martinsburg, she was united in marriage to Lester E. Steele. He preceded her in death on January 20, 2014. Thelma was a graduate of Replogle High School Class of 1944 and a member of the Loysburg United Methodist Church. She worked as Postmaster of Loysburg and was the co-owner of Steele’s General Store. Thelma was actively involved with the Cove Lions and Lioness clubs.  She received the Melvin Jones Award in the Lions Club and was a charter member and 1st president of the Lioness Club. Thelma was a Girl Scout Leader, Sunday School Teacher, involved in the American Cancer Society and American Heart Association, member of the BPW Club, the Cove Community Club, and the Southern Cove Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary. Thelma enjoyed traveling; she visited every state in the U.S. as well as 23 countries in 5 continents. She was preceded in death by her husband Lester; daughter Sherry Snoke; and brothers Robert and Dennis Ebersole. Surviving are daughter Patricia Scott (Ralph) of Hopewell; daughter Cindy Krill (Jeffrey) of Northampton; daughter Mitzi Heaton (Don) of York; son-in-law Roy Snoke of York; grandchildren Stacie Herring (George), Stephanie Snelbaker (Jim), Shawn Scott (Melissa), Shalonne Sipes (Chris), Kecia Scott, Leslie Reiter (Dave), and Michelle McCormick (Sean); as well as 16 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received on Friday, May 10, 2019 from 4:00-8:00PM and Saturday, May 11, 2019 from 10:00-11:00AM. At 11:00AM Saturday, a funeral service will take place with Pastor Mick Dawes and Pastor Nancy Goff officiating. All of the above will be held at the Weaver Funeral Home in Woodbury. Interment will be at Salemville Cemetery. If so desired, Memorial Contributions in Thelma’s name can be made to the Cove Lions Club.
