Thomas S. Brantner, 79, Williamsburg, went home to be with the Lord Monday morning, November 5, 2018, at UPMC Altoona.

He was born in Williamsburg, son of the late David Elwood and Mary Elizabeth (Kifer) Brantner. On March 30, 1961, he married Seglinde G. Klingmann in Heidelberg, Germany.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 57 years; two daughters: Martina Douglas of Hollidaysburg and Doreen Edwards of Mechanicsburg; a son, Patrick Brantner of San Antonio, TX; six grandchildren: Joshua and Zachary Douglas, Cory and Kyle Brantner, and Alexa and Nick Appel; a great-grandson, Carter Brantner; three brothers: Clyde “Butch”, Robert, and Daniel; and nine sisters: Rose Lear, Diane Crouch, Carol Allen, Bonnie Hammond, Dorothy Hileman, Rebecca Stiffler, Arlene Luke, Nancy Beeler, and Catherine “Emma” Detwiler.

He was preceded in death by three sisters: Edna “Tiny” Brantner, Jane Boose, and Faye Gorsuch; and three brothers: John, James “Irvin”, and infant Donnie.

Tom was a 1958 graduate of Williamsburg High School and was a US Army veteran, serving from 1958 until his retirement in 1978. During his time of service, he did two tours of duty in Vietnam and attained the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3. Tom also received various awards including: the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal (4th Award), Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/1 Silver Star & 2 Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, 4 Overseas Service Bars, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and 6 Service Stripes.

Following his retirement from the Army, he was employed at F.L. Smithe Machine Company Inc., Duncansville and also Conrail Locomotive Shop, Altoona.

He was a life-time member of Grace Pointe Community Church, Williamsburg, (formerly Williamsburg Church of God) where he taught Sunday school and served on church council. Tom also enjoyed collecting and working on muscle cars.

Friends will be received 5-8 pm, Wednesday, November 7, 2018,  at the Grace Pointe Community Church, and from 10 until the 11 am funeral service, Thursday, November 8, 2018, at the church, Rev. James D. Spivey officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held at Oreminea Cemetery, rural Williamsburg.

The family prefers memorial contributions in memory of Tom be given to Grace Pointe Community Church, 815 Yellow Springs Dr., Williamsburg, PA 16693.
