Vera M. Stern, 89, rural Martinsburg, went home to be with the Lord peacefully, Thursday afternoon at her home.

She was born in rural New Enterprise, daughter of the late Charles P. and Mary B. (Fyock) Replogle.  She married Merle C. “Pete” Stern on June 4, 1944 in Martinsburg.  He preceded her in death on September 4, 2014.

Surviving are 3 sons: Kenneth H. (Lizette) and Jerry A. (Susan) all of rural Martinsburg, Barry M. (Alice) of Grass Valley, CA; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by 3 sisters: Lois Muntain, Sara Ritchey, and Ida Baker.

Vera was a 1944 graduate of Morrisons Cove High School, Martinsburg.

She was a lifelong member of Martinsburg Grace Brethren Church where she played the piano for Sunday services, and the church choir for more than 30 years, and also played for the Maranatha Quartet.

Vera served as Chief Deputy Sheriff for over 20 years for the Blair County Sheriff’s office.

She loved spending time with her family, watching the Cobra’s Softball Team, doing puzzles, crocheting, playing the piano, baking, traveling, and was an avid bowler for many years.

Friends will be received from 5-8pm, Monday, August 10, 2015, at the Martinsburg Grace Brethren Church, where a funeral service will be held at 11am, Tuesday, August 11, 2015, Pastor Brian L. McCall and Hospice Chaplain Richard J. Harter officiating.  Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.

The family prefers memorial contributions be given to MetroGrace Urban Ministry, Conemaugh Grace Brethren Church or to her church, c/o Berachah Sunday School Class Mission Fund.
