W. Dale Detwiler, 98, of Elderton, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2025 at Communities at Indian Haven – Indiana, after a brief illness. He was born on September 16, 1927 in Williamsburg; son of the late Warren and Emma Elizabeth (Isenberg) Detwiler. On August 23, 1950 in Altoona, he married Ruth A. (Mumich) Detwiler; she preceded him in death on February 20, 2022.
Dale was a Class of 1946 graduate of Williamsburg High School. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Army and recipient of the Bronze Star Medal with Valor. Dale served during the Korean War and attained the rank of Technical Sergeant. He was a member of Indiana V.F.W. Post 19 and the Williamsburg V.F.W. Post 86. Dale retired in 1988 from the Penelec Keystone Power Plant. He enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family, especially Sundays at The Log Cabin Restaurant.
Dale was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathie Cessna; a son, Bruce Detwiler; and three brothers. Surviving is son, Robert D. Detwiler (Kathy) of Worthington; son, Gary E. Detwiler (Donna) of Dayton; son, Scott D. Detwiler (Charlotte) of Punxsutawney; son-in-law, Richard Cessna of Girty; daughter-in-law, Jodie Detwiler of Cranberry Twp.; 9 grandchildren: Janice Cessna (Larry Finkel), Erik Detwiler (Jessica Meeder), Garrett Detwiler (Jaye Bruening), Matthew Detwiler (LaKiesha), Christy Welton (Seth), Erin Brant (Jason), Brianna Seyler (Aaron), Tiffany (Detwiler) Anthony, and Ryan Detwiler; as well as ten great-grandchildren.
At Dale’s request, all services will be held privately with interment in Fairview Cemetery - Martinsburg. If so desired, Memorial Contributions in Dale’s name may be given to the American Cancer Society - Breast Cancer Awareness or the Amyloidosis Foundation.
