Walter Scott “Red” Edwards, 90, of Williamsburg, passed away early Sunday morning, May 14, 2023 at his home.

He was born in Clappertown, rural Williamsburg, son of the late, Elwood W. and Anna Martha (Rhodes) Edwards.  On September 14, 1957 he married Winifred F. DeCarlo in Altoona.  She preceded him in death on July 11, 2019, following 61 years of marriage.

Surviving are three daughters: Jackie Weaver (Bill), Lynne Edwards and Maureen Edwards all of Williamsburg; two sons: Walter Edwards in California and Raymond Edwards (Flora) of Altoona; 10 grandchildren: Stephanie (Jessi), Christopher (Maura), Tiffany, Donna (Jeremy), Luke, Michael, Donnelly, Emily, Megan (Christopher) and Walter; eight great-grandchildren: Alex (Kirstin), Kylee (Holden), Anthony, Melissa, Zachary, Alexis, Maddox and Aleah; a great-great-grandson, Kole; a sister, Nancy Shoenfelt of Henrietta; a brother, James Edwards of New Paris; and his pet dog, Snoopy.

He was preceded in death by two sisters: infant Helen and L. Marie Strong; and a brother, John Edwards.

Walter was a 1950 graduate of Williamsburg High School.  After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he proudly spent 30 years, serving during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars and attained the rank of Master Sergeant.

Red became part of the Legion Family in 1960 joining the Bonner Sollenberger American Legion Post 456 in Williamsburg. As part of the Legion, he served in many capacities including: Post Commander, Post Adjutant, Post Service Officer, Post Deputy Commander, Post Judge Advocate, Past 21st District Commander, Past 21st District Adjutant, Director of the Homeless Committee, mentor for the Keystone Boys State Program and Past Vice Chairman of the National Distinguished Guest Committee.  Walter also was a member of the Williamsburg V.F.W. Post 6086 and the Duncansville V.F.W. Post 8724.

Red was employed as a van driver for Cove Forge, Williamsburg and also drove limousines across our great country for Vinny’s Limousine Service, which was located in San Bernardino, CA.

He loved spending time with his family, fishing, boating and singing karaoke. Red also enjoyed visiting Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station and the U.S. Marine Corps Museum in Quantico, VA.

Friends will be received from 5-8pm, Friday, May 19, 2023 at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:30 am, Saturday, May 20, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Williamsburg, with celebrant, Father Alan Thomas officiating. A full military honors service will follow outside the church.   Private interment will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Williamsburg.

Memorial contributions in memory of Red may be given to Homeless Veteran’s Corporation, c/o, Ron Conley, 709 Hope St., Pittsburgh, PA 15220.
