Wilfred L. Showalter, 94, resident of Homewood at Martinsburg for the past 16 years, formerly of Altoona, passed away Tuesday evening at Homewood.

He was born in East Sharpsburg, son of the late Adam and Nellie (Ramey) Showalter.  On November 19, 1943 he married Sara Mae (Foor) in Woodbury.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 72 years; a son, Rick A. (Jody) of Hilliard, OH; a daughter-in-law, Marsie Showalter of Parkersburg, WV; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Earl J. Showalter of Homewood at Martinsburg; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Randy W. Showalter; 2 brothers; and a sister.

Wilfred was a 1940 graduate of Martinsburg High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving in the South Pacific.

He was a member of Grace United Church of Christ, Altoona, where he served as a deacon and later as an elder of the church consistory.

Wilfred retired after 42 years of service from Sears Roebuck, Altoona, where he managed various departments.

Friends will be received from 10am until 11:30 am, Saturday, July 16, 2016 at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg.  A funeral service will be held at 11:30 am, Saturday following the viewing at the funeral home, Rev. Jerry McCuller Jr. and Rev. John Bonebreak officiating.  Interment with full military honors will follow at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery, Altoona.

The family prefers memorial contributions be given to Grace United Church of Christ, 2300 8th Ave., Altoona, PA 16602.
