William V. Bogel Sr.

William V. Bogel Sr., 78, of Martinsburg, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Homewood at Martinsburg after an extended illness.  He was born in Nashville, TN, son of the late, Ralph V. Sr. and Mattie E. (Fowler) Bogel.  On December 24, 1967 he married Dorothy L. Smith.  She preceded him in death on November 3, 2019 following 52 years of marriage.

Surviving are two children: William V. Jr. (wife, Tammy) and Victoria Goff (husband, Stan); five grandchildren: Kera, Mattison, Colton, Tiersty and Peyton; a great-grandson, Shaddix; two sisters: Mary Imler and Margaret Foreman; and two brothers: Ralph Jr. and Charles Bogel.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Garlock; and two brothers: Jim and Mike Bogel.

Bill proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1963 until 1966, attaining the rank of Seaman Apprentice and was a member of the D. Merl Tipton V.F.W. Post 43, Martinsburg.  He was a dedicated employee at HH Brown Shoe Company for over 50 years.

He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, fishing and gardening. Over the years, Bill enjoyed playing his guitar and singing with his brothers. Just a few weeks prior to his passing, he was still singing to his precious great-grandson, Shaddix.

Friends will be received from 4-7pm, Monday, October 16, 2023 at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg.  A private graveside service with military honors will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
