William Alvah Chase, 83, of Martinsburg, formerly of Winter Haven, FL, passed away Thursday morning, January 2, 2025, at UPMC Altoona.

He was born in Bristol, ME, son of the late William T. and Olive M. (Curtis) Chase.  On November 25, 1988, he married Deborah L. Walter in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 36 years, Deborah; two sons: William Chase (Katherine) of Mechanicsburg, and Timothy Chase of Clearfield; a daughter, Rebecca Neff (Shane) of Darnestown, MD; three grandchildren: Spencer Neff (Anne Marie), Garrett Neff and Abby Neff; a stepdaughter, Vicki Harr of Naples, FL; and a sister-in-law, Cindy Dively of Claysburg.

Bill was a graduate of Bristol High School in Maine, where he was a member of the baseball team.  In the 1970’s, he was the general manager of the Martinsburg Shoe Company. He then owned and operated three factories in the Dominican Republic for 11 years before retiring from the shoe manufacturing business in 1992.

Bill loved spending time with his family, and enjoyed owning harness racehorses, traveling, and following major league baseball. In fact, during his time in the Dominican Republic, he was instrumental in helping Sammy Sosa reach his dream of becoming a major league ball player.

A memorial service will be held at 11am, Friday, January 10, 2025 at Bice Memorial Chapel at Homewood at Martinsburg.  Private inurnment will be held in Maine.

Contributions in memory of Bill may be given to the Central PA Humane Society, 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd, Altoona, PA 16602.
