Wilmer R. Frye, 87, Williamsburg passed away early Friday morning at The Village at Morrisons Cove, Martinsburg.
He was born in Williamsburg, son of the late Albert F. and Cora E. (Horton) Frye. On May 16, 1953 he married P. Joyce (Dick) Bishop in Winchester, VA.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 63 years; 4 children: Lou Ann Grove (Stanley), Sherry (friend, Charlie), Jack (Mindy) and Randy (Cindy) all of Williamsburg; 9 grandchildren: Trina Abla, Trisha Myers, Kara, Allen, Brody, Jeremy and Ashley Frye, Amyjo White, Arianne Waddington; and 19 great-grandchildren with a great-granddaughter on the way.
He was the last of his immediate family being preceded in death by a total of 14 brothers and sisters.
Wilmer was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War serving with the 5th Regiment Combat Team, of the 24th Infantry Division.
He was a member of Williamsburg United Methodist Church, Portage Lodge #220 F&AM, Hollidaysburg, Altoona Consistory Valley of Altoona, and the Jaffa Shrine, Altoona where he served in the Legion of Honor. Wilmer was also a member of The 5th Regiment Combat Team and a life member of Bonner Sollenberger American Legion Post 456, Williamsburg, VFW Memorial Post 6086, Williamsburg and the Disabled American Veterans.
Wilmer retired in 1991 from Appleton Paper Inc, Roaring Spring as a fork truck operator and had also had been employed for the paper mills in Williamsburg and Tyrone. He also formerly served with the Williamsburg Vol. Fire Company Station 90 and the Williamsburg Ambulance Club.
Friends will be received from 2-4pm and 6-8pm, Sunday, September 11, 2016 at the Williamsburg United Methodist Church, where a Masonic Service will be held at 4pm. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, September 12, 2016 at the church, Pastor Heather A. Wurst officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
The family prefers memorial contributions be given to the local charity of your choice.
